Meeting time and location: 8:30 a.m., Cambridge Hall, quad side
Anacostia Riverkeeper works to protect and restore the Anacostia River. From water quality monitoring and trash cleanups to advocacy, they strive to ensure a swimmable and fishable Anacostia. The Anacostia is one of only three rivers in the United States that the EPA has deemed “impaired by trash”, imposing a total maximum daily load (TMDL) for the river. Anacostia Riverkeeper’s work in trash mitigation is vital to both Maryland and the District of Columbia in helping them reduce the River’s TMDL. STS’s Service Day will be a river cleanup of the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia, right on campus, starting students’ service work with Scholars close to their new home.
