Assistant Director; Science, Technology and Society
Nicole Mogul has been teaching the STS capstone and the "Sustainability and Design" course for the Science, Technology and Society Program and a course on engineering ethics for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 2013. She is a Distinguished Fearless Faculty Fellow with the Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a member of the Engineering Education Research Group.
In the classroom, Mogul uses movement, storytelling and theater techniques that build skills such as coping with complexity, navigating ambiguity and experiencing joy. Her research interests include public engagement with science and technology, sustainable cities, community radio, and universal design. Before coming to the University of Maryland she studied biology as an undergraduate at Colby College and received a doctorate in science and technology studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She also taught graduate courses in the Science, Technology and Society Department at Virginia Tech.
