Moya Malcolm

Assistant Director, College Park Scholars

Moya Malcolm joined College Park Scholars in January 2020 as assistant director for admissions, recruitment and persistence. In this role, she oversees all admissions and recruitment activities, advises the Scholars student ambassadors, and supports student retention and success through mentoring and other formal and informal efforts.

Malcolm brings to her role more than 15 years’ experience serving middle and high school students and families in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. Before joining the Scholars team, she served as a coordinator with the University of Maryland (UMD) Pre-College Programs – Upward Bound. There, she provided academic, college/career and personal counseling to talented pre-college students, many of whom would be the first in their families to pursue higher education. Malcolm commenced her career in education in the Montgomery County Public Schools, where she worked with an ethnically diverse population of students and families in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Malcolm earned her Master of Education in School Counseling from UMD and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Howard University in Washington, DC. She is currently a doctoral candidate in student affairs at UMD. Her research interests include college access for immigrant students of color, school–community–university partnerships that strengthen the K–16 educational pipeline and supporting minoritized students in higher education through asset-based programming.
