Service Day has been a longstanding College Park Scholars tradition. Each year, Service Day has offered first-year students a bonding experience that builds community—all while they themselves engage with the community in which they’ll be living as University of Maryland (UMD) students.
In honor of Scholars’ 25th Anniversary, we encourage our Scholars alumni to host their own Pop-Up Service Day in their communities!
Many of you already volunteer regularly at your favorite nonprofit organization. The next time you’re planning on volunteering, gather a few friends to join you and let us know in advance. We’ll send you a #ScholarsAt25 Service Day kit (while supplies last), ask you to take a few photos to post on social and—voilà!—you’ve got yourself a Pop-Up Service Day!
Create your own
New to volunteering? You can still put together your own Pop-Up Service Day with a few friends or Scholars alumni in the area. Here’s how:

Promote Service Day. Make sure to have a sign-up mechanism, whether it’s in the form of a Facebook event posting, an Evite, a Google form, etc. Be sure to collect the participant’s t-shirt size (S–XL available).
