Scholars Inducted into Phi Kappa Phi

College Park, Md. Nine College Park Scholars were inducted into Chapter 22 of Phi Kappa Phi. Established in 1920, Phi Kappa Phi is the oldest honor society at Maryland that recognizes academic excellence across all disciplines.

The University of Maryland Chapter invites juniors and seniors in the top 10 percent of their class, and graduate students with a grade point average of at least 3.9 for induction. Faculty members, alumni and staff are also selected on the basis of outstanding achievement. At the December 2nd initiation, the following Scholars were inducted:

Rudolph Burshnic earned his College Park Scholars Citation in the Public Leadership program in 2007; he is a junior majoring in government and politics. A 2005 graduate of Hillsborough High School, Rudolph is the son of Rudolph and Laura Burshnic, of Hillsborough, NJ.

Jennifer Edelston earned her College Park Scholars Citation in the Science, Technology and Society program in 2007; she is a junior majoring in Jewish Studies . A 2005 graduate of the Weber School, Jennifer is the daughter of Merrie and Bruce Edelston, of Atlanta, GA.

Emily F eldman earned her College Park Scholars Citation in the Media, Self and Society program in 2007; she is a junior majoring in English. A 2005 graduate of East Brunswick High School, Emily is the daughter of Hilary Mirrer and Howard Feldman, of East Brunswick, NJ.

Michael Edward Katz earned his College Park Scholars Citation in the Public Leadership program in 2005; he is a senior majoring in Finance. A 2003 graduate of Franklin High School, Michael is the son of Stephen and Terry, of Reisterstown, MD.

Jennifer R. Kulik earned her College Park Scholars Citation in the Media, Self and Society program in 2004; she is a senior majoring in Psychology. A 2002 graduate of River Hill High School, Jennifer is the daughter of Jeffrey and Sharon Kulik, of Clarksville, MD.

Rachel Ludwig earned her College Park Scholars Citation in the International Studies program in 2006; she is a senior majoring in government and politics. A 2004 graduate of Rockville High School, Rachel is the daughter of Minna Davidson and Craig Ludwig.

Laura Roselyn Messing earned her College Park Scholars Citation in the International Studies program in 2007; she is a junior majoring in anthropology. A 2005 graduate of Montclair High School, Laura is the daughter of Robert and Amy Messing, of Upper Montclair, NJ.

Jamie Benjamin Severt earned his College Park Scholars Citation in the American Cultures program in 2007; she is a junior majoring in psychology. A 2005 graduate of Atholton High School, Jamie is the son of John and Randy Severt, of Columbia, MD.

Sarah Joan Taylor earned her College Park Scholars Citation in the Advocates for Children program in 2007; she is a junior majoring in psychology. A 2005 graduate of Daniel Hand High School, Sarah is the daughter of Scott and Cindy Taylor, of Madison, CT.

Established in 1920, the University of Maryland 's Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi recognizes and promotes the superior scholarship of students from five of the University System of Maryland campuses. Each year Phi Kappa Phi/National awards over $450,000 in scholarships and awards. The Maryland Chapter complements these awards with an additional $20,000 of scholarships.
