Special Events
Summer Orientations
Each summer three orientation sessions are designated for students entering College Park Scholars. While it is not required that you attend one of these Scholars orientation sessions, we strongly recommend doing so if possible. Students will meet peers from their Scholars program, interact with their program faculty and staff, and even receive their new Scholars T-shirt! More information is available at our Orientation site.
Freshman Move-In
Move-in for the Cambridge Community is the date on which all incoming freshmen residing in the Scholars residential community are able to move-in to their residence hall. More information, including move-in times for each Scholars program, is available on the Move-In site.
Service Day
Each year the College Park Scholars community comes together to engage in a day of service. Our Annual Service Day is the event in which the incoming freshman class in College Park Scholars performs service on campus, in the city of College Park, and in other communities around and beyond the University of Maryland. Faculty, staff, and student leaders will join the incoming Scholars' class to help lead this experience. More information is available on the Service Day site.
Scholars in New York
Scholars in New York is our signature spring event to New York City, where more than 300 students, alumni, parents, faculty and staff descend upon the city for a weekend of fun, adventure, academic enrichment, and artistic enlightenment. Our goal is to return all participants with a renewed appreciation for New York City, a deeper understanding of their program's importance in society, and new friends from all areas of College Park Scholars. Participants explore New York City, attend a Broadway show, and participate in program activities. More information is available at our Scholars in New York site.
Maryland Day
Each spring, the University of Maryland hosts a major open house on the last Saturday of April for alumni, students, families, prospective students, the business community and residents of the surrounding Baltimore-Washington Metro area. College Park Scholars hosts an Arts fair in the Cambridge Community Center each year that is open to the public. More information is available at our Maryland Day site.
Academic Showcase
Each Spring, more than 350 second year College Park Scholars showcase their Capstone Citation projects at the Academic Showcase. The Showcase features individuals' and teams' poster displays, platform presentations, panel discussions and performances by the Scholars sophomores. Each student's product highlights their work in research, service-learning and internship projects during the course of the year. More information is available at our Academic Showcase site.
"Step Up to Bat for Kids" Charity Softball Tournament
Begun in 1998 by a sophomore Advocates for Children Scholar as an advocacy project, the Tournament has grown into an annual staple of the Scholars calendar. Since the first teams took the field in 1998, Scholars has been able to donate over $10,000 to charities around the world who deal with the health and welfare of children and families. This daylong tournament fields teams from each program on our campus engineering fields. More information is available at our Charity Softball Tournament site.
Commencement
College Park Scholars takes great pride in supporting the commencement activities for
our alumni. Scholars who have earned their citation from the program are provided the
opportunity to receive the College Park Scholars Medallion. More information about
this process and other commencement-related issues is available at
our Commencement site.
